A car speeds down a road between miles of marshes and estuary flats, its passenger a young woman named Agnes, fresh from a discovery that has turned her world turned upside down. MARY KELLY (1927–2017) was an English crime writer best known for her Inspector Brett Nightingale and Hedley Nicholson series, whose innovative style and skill for suspense were lauded by contemporary critics such as Julian Symons and Anthony Boucher. Her novel The Spoilt Kill, published in 1961, won the Gold Dagger Award and is also available in this series.
